Frequently Asked Questions
We have answered some of our most frequently asked questions about Psychological Testing!
What is psychological testing?
Psychological testing uses standardized tools (like questionnaires, tasks, or interviews) to assess cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. It helps clarify diagnoses and treatment recommendations.
Does insurance cover testing?
Often, insurance will cover a portion of your costs, but coverage does vary per plan. You can call your member service number on the back of your card ask them directly. We are currently in network with the following commercial insurance companies: Blue Cross Blue Shield, AETNA, The Health Plan, PEIA/UMR, and Peak Health.
*We are unable to bill Medicaid or CHIPS insurance plans.
Will I get a diagnosis from testing?
If appropriate, testing may result in a formal diagnosis. Some evaluations may not lead to a diagnosis but will provide insights into functioning and personalized recommendations.
What ages can be tested?
We can administer all evaluations for children ages 4 and up, teens, and adults!
What if I have more questions?
Give us a call and we can answer questions, set up a phone consultation, discuss insurance coverage, and more!
Who conducts psychological testing?
Testing is administered and interpreted by a licensed psychologist or a trained clinician under their supervision.
At Mosaic Wellness, Jennifer Warden, Licensed Psychologist, does all testing!
How long does testing take?
It varies, but most testing appointments range from 2 to 6 hours, sometimes over multiple sessions, depending on complexity. The number of tests will be determined after your intake session.
Do I need a Doctor's Referral?
Testing can be done electively, without a referral. However, some insurances plans may require prior authorization for coverage for testing. If this is the case, a formal referral is recommended.
What documentation is needed before I can be scheduled?
All clients being tested will need the following:
-
Most recent vision and hearing screenings
-
Any results of previous testing (e.g. testing done in school)
-
Completed intake paperwork
Why would someone need testing?
Testing can help with:
-
Clarifying diagnoses (e.g., ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression)
-
Identifying learning difficulties
-
Evaluating cognitive strengths and weaknesses
-
Providing treatment recommendations
-
Supporting accommodations at work or school
What happens during testing?
You (or your child) will complete a variety of tasks, including questionnaires, puzzles, memory or attention tasks, and interviews. The experience is interactive, and breaks are taken as needed.
What do I need before I call?
It is recommended to call member services for your insurance provider beforehand to determine your plan's coverage and benefits for Psychological Evaluations. Some plans require a doctor's referral or authorization prior to coverage. If your insurance requires authorization, your primary care doctor can send a referral.
Where does testing take place?
Testing takes place at our office:
209 Washington Street West, Suite 200

Some parts of the testing process can be done over telehealth, but evaluations require in-person appointments.
